By now I'm sure I'm not the only one disgusted and outraged by this tape. CNN has pretty much been looping this shit all day. I couldn't even watch the tape, it was so bad. I'm not one for violence anyway, but this was particularly disturbing. First of all, if this guy was drunk, what could he have possibly done to warrant a public beatdown? And second, he is 64 years old! Short of busting out a gun and shooting at the cops, what threatening thing could he have even done?! And hell, if he was drunk AND 64, the guy probably didn't even fucking know his own name! What a joke. This does not provide me with comforting thoughts about the people protecting me. In fact, I've never met a cop who wasn't a total prick. I know that's an extreme opinion but show me one who isn't a power tripping douchebag and I'll change my tune.

The trouble with the media, while offering us a view on the world, has to fight for rating. So they loop a bad situation, and suddenly all the good cops look bad.

Based on the images we have all seen, these few police basically assaulted an old black man. They will get their day in court.

What you don't see looped on cable, is the thousands of police all over the world performing countless acts of public service everyday. And remember that most of the New Orleans police had to live in their cars during the days following Katrina. Add this to the fact they lost their homes, and maybe their families, some of them are gonna snap.

Doesn't make it right, but perhaps it helps one understand?

I'm not friends with cops either. Here things are uglier than that. But why did they arrest (beat) the old man?

luis they said he was drunk...they gave no other explanation from what i gather...but they've been suspended pending criminal charges so methinks it was just pigs being pigs.

Hi Sarah,

That footage had me remembering the Rodney King beating and how by slowing the film and going shot by shot, the defence made it seem the police were in the right. Very weird and could happen here too.

Ahhhh. I don't think we will ever get a staight answer on any of this. Mr. Davis claims he hasn't had a drink in twenty-odd years. Who the hell counts the years?

Word here is he fell against a mounted cop's horse. Repeatedly.

What happens if he falls down and the horse kicks and kills him?

When are pigs supposed to protect humans from horses?

Completely confused.

well, someone who used to be an alcoholic would count years.

other than that i have no clue, but based on the cops behaviour after they realized it was caught on tape (trying to beat the shit out of the guy taping) i'm gonna say the cops are in the wrong. plus, the dude is 64. you can't tell me that a 64 yr. old man couldn't have been restrained if he was doing something bad without 4 cops beating his ass to a bloody pulp. THAT doesn't make sense.
